Assessing treatability with simulated lake drawdown: Quantifying drought‐driven turbidity in source water

چکیده

The Colorado River Basin is experiencing a significant drought that began in 2000. As water supplies are projected to continue declining, managers concerned with the ongoing treatability of Lake Mead water, which provides 90% source for Las Vegas Valley, and crucial link downstream water. drinking intake currently draws high-quality, low-turbidity water; however, turbidity increase. This study assesses by quantifying withdrawn from Mead, Nevada. quality modeling results provide projections turbidities case extreme drawdown guidance treatment staff. underlying process incorporated existing data identified potential problems, yielding template hydrodynamic utilities can take advantage plan future changes quality.

Survival of parrotfeather following simulated drawdown events

Non-native aquatic plants can often invade and rapidly outgrow native species in shallow water bodies resulting in the establishment of monotypic populations of the invading plant. Parrotfeather (Myriophyllum aquaticum Vell. Verdc.) is a non-native species that can be a nuisance in shallow water bodies. Therefore, we simulated a 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 12 wk winter and summer drawdown under controll...

The 1998 Coastal Turbidity Plume in Lake Michigan

In this paper, numerical models of coastal circulation, wind-waves, and sediment transport are applied to the March 1998 turbidity plume event in Lake Michigan to investigate the role of wind-induced circulation in the offshore transport of sedimentary material in Lake Michigan. Computer visualization is used to compare model results to the evidence of cross-isobath transport suggested in satel...

Lake water quality classification with airborne hyperspectral spectrometer and simulated MERIS data

We study the use of airborne and simulated satellite remote sensing data for classification of three water quality variables: Secchi depth, turbidity, and chlorophyll a. An extensive airborne spectrometer and ground truth data set obtained in four lake water quality measurement campaigns in southern Finland during 1996–1998 was used in the analysis. The class limits for the water quality variab...

Monitoring of Water Quality in Lake and Coastal Regions Using Simulated Envisat Meris Data

The spatial and temporal variation of water quality in Finnish lakes and coastal regions is high compared with typical conditions in open sea areas or in large lakes. Both the lake regions and the coastal archipelago consist of small basins or sub-basins isolated from each other by islands and peninsulas. Moreover, Finnish lakes as well as the Northern Baltic sea annually freezes which has a hi...
